TFM GROUP delivered the first trial consignment of import HR steel plates (strips) from the port of Pohang to Commercial Port of Vladivostok
On March 28, 2010 TFM GROUP delivered the first trial consignment of HR steel plates (strips) from the port of Pohang (South Korea) to Commercial Port of Vladivostok. This shipment is destined to the Chelyabinsk tube rolling plant. Strips are to be used for the production of single–seam large diameter pipes (LDP), which have the highest pressure resistance and are used worldwide in oil and gas pipeline construction.
A large consignment of 800 tonnes HR steel plates (strips) has been transported to Russian Far East for the first time ever. Only two Russian ports of Saint Petersburg and Novorossiisk have gained experience in handling such huge shipments from Europe.
In order to comply with discharge procedure in the port of Vladivostok, each plate was separated with wooden bars. Given that it is OOG cargo (each plate is 4.5 m wide), strips will be transported to the plant on specialized rail flatcars.
Taken unto consideration that such large shipment of import strips was carried out to RFE for the first time, during discharging TFM GROUP had to make prompt decisions and adhere to the customer’s instructions how to safely unload cargo from ship and stow on the berth. Thanks to continuous efforts and long-standing relations between TFM GROUP and Commercial Port of Vladivostok all problems that arose during discharge operations have been solved expertly.
Another challenge that TFM GROUP faced with was to find the ship that would suit the South Korean shipper’s needs and requirements with regard to transportation of strips.
Another trial consignment of strips is slated to be transported from Japan by TFM GROUP through Nakhodka Commercial Sea Port.
